Disgrace

I just got back from my weekly game of soccer. As a mama (Singaporean slur for indians, means "uncle" in tamil; I can't believe i am explaining this), I feel like I am disgracing my fellow tamilans by not playing good soccer.

Indians are known to skillful soccer players...atleast in Singapore. I think it might got to do with the congruent fact that my indian buddies I know are pretty creative with stories or rather coming up with excuses and imaginative stuff..hehe. Soccer, has some parallelism..like when u dribble past opponents, you have to fake and use your imagination to wriggle them off by being witty. Whatever the case, I wish I could improve my soccer even though its way past my time to hang my boots on the wall.

I will continue working hard on it..meanwhile..its time to sleep. I have a flight to catch in the morning.

Honey, get me some redbull and ipod from the vending machine.

As some of you might know, I'm staffed on a project at Geek central; Silicon Valley. It is working out quite well for me as the commute isn't that long compared to the long flights to Puerto Rico. However, I had a situation last evening.

The American flight from San Jose to Orange County got cancelled due to technical problems. We had to deplane and coincidentally all the other flight were delayed, sold-out and cancelled due to weather problems in Chicago. My colleague and I made the decision to drive a rental!!

HAha..not funny actually. It took us 6 hours to get home and I got to bed at 2am and got up at 6 am for work.

However, silicon valley has some interesting sights. Like the picture below of a vending machine in my hotel. It sells redbull, food, ipod, etc..yes...IPOD and the price aint that bad either. $200 for the black Nano..very tempting.

Who lives in a Pineapple under the sea?

I started loving sponge Bob square pants before he started getting famous (so proud of myself now..haha). I remember when I worked for Dell in Austin, TX (back in 2001). I will spend my weekends watching Sponge-Bob thinking; "this cartoon is actually quite amusing". I am even more so glad that it wasn't just a fiction and there are real sponge bobs...this one probably got washed ashore..not sure where.

Memories of Towner Road

Not many would have heard of Towner road but that street has special memories for 6 of us in my family. My siblings and I grew up in Towner road in the early to mid 70s in one of the Terrace houses there. I was probably 2-4 yrs old then but I remember very vividly the fun I had in that spacious house and during my increasingly lonely weekends in the OC, the touch of alcohol further irrigates the already fertile effervescent mind of mine, propagating pleasant thoughts of growing up on the streets of Towner Road.

The two-story house was huge and contrastingly furnishing was spartan and mininalistic. I remember a couple wooden furnitures but none of my siblings had a bed. All of us had rattan mats to sleep on.

The row of houses were of colonial style and built in the 1920s. The house had a peculiar architecture and layout was even more so enigmatic. Outhouse toilets, detached kitchen, a huge open space in the back, a concrete tub for bathing, a refreshing veranda with rattan blinds, spiral stairs...the list goes on.

On my trip back to Singapore after graduating from the instituition, I paid Towner road a visit after many many years (probably 22-23 yrs?). I learnt that the houses are still there and renovated back to its glorious past. They are owned by the Far Eastern group and are up for lease being marketted as the "Towner Ville" housing project. One of my high-level "to-do" list in my life is to buy that property back one day and live in that very house that I grew up.

Writing blogs

This whole blog thing started as a clandestine operation for me to write random stuff without revealing too much about my identity. The truth is everyone knows its me and I have to be quite careful about I write here which is precisely what I was trying to get away from.

However, I feel the initial attraction of writing a blog has worn out and couple of my friends are no longer updating them.. (you mofos know who you are!). I enjoy writing so I spend 15 mins at a time writing B.S. here. I try to write about random stuff without getting..

1. Too personal
2. Without harping on disheartening issues
3. Giving opinions that would be political
4. Pissing people off

The amazing thing I realised is that I got a bunched of interesting comments on the article I wrote about girls being evil. I've always been someone who don't enjoy upsetting others but it was an eye opener for me to be honest. Anyhow, I will try to continue writing to keep this alive.
